Safe at Home!

03.07.2020: 1350 – 1430: Archery practice. I shot 21 arrows. The right hand won’t hold steady. Even now, just relaxing at the keyboard (not using Dragon), I usually expect the left hand to be the problem, but today, it’s the right. I could feel it settling down at its anchor point along my jaw with the string pulled back, but I couldn’t hold it for more than three or four seconds. I am glad I started this Bucket List program when I did. (Thanks, Chris C., for suggesting that I do it while I’m able.) This will probably be my last League shoot. However, I won’t stop shooting. I’ll just shoot against myself. There is usually another archer around who can check my scoring. I’ll see what coach Larry thinks about that idea.

03.08.2020: 0835: Today is cloudy at 58º. I was up at 0515, but I got caught up with about twenty+ emails and some interesting posts. My friend and mentor, Harvey Stanbrough, just sent a new short story White Ring Quilt that I will now read. https://harveystanbrough.com Wow! This inspires me to write a short story.
We watched OUTLANDER. Those episodes are just a series of short stories that are connected. Then we got hooked on the Netflix series, The Kominsky Method with Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin. It is supposed to be a comedy. With each episode, it got at least one laugh from PJ or me. They got prostate problems accurately.

03.09.2020: No tremor this morning!

03.10.2020: I can’t resist this: Joe, Jessa, Ethan, and Ross Castle, Ireland.

BREAKING NEWS: By Presidential Command, they are returning early via Germany, to San Francisco, to Tucson. They may arrive by 03.13 or 14.

1400: Shot 30 arrows. Getting tighter and closer to center.(No picture, yet>) Holding the trigger horizontally helps with my anchor point. My hand slides back to my ear. Not scattering as much.

0900: We had a happy gathering of Quail Run Writing at a new venue: Guy’s House. I know: I should have taken a picture of his cat. (or his tools in the garage) but we were too excited just being at his Castle. The sharing went like this:
Bev: A Son’s Promise. A boy delivers his mother’s ashes to the Temple of the Plumed Serpent, Quetzalcóatl.
Flo: Sci-Fizoos and Nightmares. Inspired by Ray Bradbury and Isaac Azimov, she has a “zoo” dream of a lemur who asks her to “Take Me To Your Leader.”
Guy: Invites us to a Wine Tasting Party.
Sharon: Stick With Me Santa – Dressing a mannequin of Santa for the store window with spectators watching results in thumbs up at the finished product.
Pauletta: AN ESCAPE ARTIST – She reveals her ability to escape for a couple of hours eating popcorn and viewing a movie.
Phyllis: Offered her medical history of blackouts that she will share with her doctor on March 11, 2020, as part of her on-going memoir. She also added another page of her early history (Moving) after marriage and becoming Teacher of the Year in Hawthorne, California.
Sam: Offered two tasks: A flash Fiction 6-minute prompt and a letter Dated November 25, 1957, while on TAD in Charleston, S.C. assigned to the USS Anthony D.D. 515, a Fletcher Class Destroyer.

After dinner: We watched a few more Netflix episodes of The Kominsky Method, which continued to cause us to laugh.

03.11.2020: Up at 0500. Writing this Journal. Today, we find ourselves double booked. (Day-umm!) Three months waiting for PJ’s doctor’s appointment at 1115; 1200: A two-hour window for the installation of our new dryer. The old one purchased in 1983 finally gave out. If this new one lasts half as long, our grandchildren will be happy. PJ will have to go to the doctor alone. We like to go together. This one is about her back. 1115: The dryer is delivered early! PJ is at the doctor’s office. I follow in hot pursuit and stand behind her at the check-in window. Surprise! Dr. Kretzer showed us the results of the Dye pictures of her spine. I can’t remember the number, but it was either T-12 or L1 that is pressing against each other. Somewhere around that area. They’re setting her up for Body Central again. But she goes to a pain clinic first. (sometime next week)

1500: I shot 15 arrows All inside the blue circle. Got to get tighter. My right-hand snugs up tight to my anchor. The left-arm seems weak today. Hard to hold steady. I’ll practice at the club tomorrow afternoon, with Greg, getting ready for Friday’s score.
1630: I brought carry-out from Culver’s for dinner. We watched the news and three more episodes of The Kominsky Method. It is a comedy. If you are over fifty, you’ll understand the funny lines. To bed by 2200. I think this is the second season. Start with Season one. There are 30-minute episodes, so it’s easy to stop when you want. Google it on YouTube and view the trailers. These two actors, Alan Arkin, and Michael Douglas play off each other perfectly. Each episode is a lesson in excellent scriptwriting.

03.12.2020: 0500: Up and loading the laundry and using the new Hotpoint dryer.
Raining this morning. 1230 – 1420 Practicing shooting. Shot 45 arrows. Tomorrow, I shoot for a score.
1800: I took PJ to Culver’s for dinner. It was raining all evening. Tomorrow morning, we’ll make a menu for the upcoming week. We watched a couple of episodes of The Kominsky Method, which continues to be funny. To bed by 2100.

03.13.2020: 0530: Light spattering shower this morning. I spoke with Julie this morning. They didn’t go to New York City to watch Broadway plays. (Broadway is dark.)
We think Joe, Jessa, Bekah, and Ethan are flying home from Germany to San Francisco, to Tucson (with Bekah going on to Chicago). We should know tonight what their status is.

1400: Final league shoot. 181/300. I started out pretty good. My first two ends were 22 and 26. Then, I went steadily lower with 17, 17,12, and a 9.(ugh.) So, to review: My lowest score for the 10 weeks was 152. My highest score was 202/300. I will continue to practice outside in our backyard. I’ll probably practice a couple of times a week at the club, just like I have been doing. Whether I shoot in the next league will depend on the progress of Parkinson’s. So far, I owe much of my strength and balance to the archery practice.

Now, to focus on publishing this issue of Maytag Moments. Thanks for your comments. Keep a lookout on the left side for the Comment section. I think it’s on that side. If you click in there, we can have a good conversation. Of course, you may still email us. Thanks again.
