May 5-13 Pictures and poems

I’d like to start where we left off last Tuesday, the 5th. I was having serious problems with my laptop and WiFi and Zoom.

We get Pictures! Marilyn Hoover’s (a fellow memoirist) great-Granddaughters! Korra and Vienna. No! Wait. Vienna and Korra. No! Wait. Pete and Repeat.

PJ just can’t get enough of the Amaryllis. She thinks we should have different colored ones!
We walked part of Udall Park this morning! 980 Steps. First time since last Tuesday. PJ did feel better. We got a little Sun. We were walking by 0615. That’s the earliest we’ve walked. It’s getting hot earlier! 1200 steps
We came home and had breakfast. Swombo scored my shooting. Only 180/300. We watched the local and national news plus two more episodes of ANNE WITH AN “E”. Went to bed by 2100.
Potatoes from our garden. 05.08.2020: Up by 0500. We have an appointment with Dr. Dyson at 1430. She drilled my pre-cancerous head in 12 places! 0600: Archery practice.0650: PJ walks at Udall Park. 1286 steps. We walked across the east field for the first time. Only rested three times. Looking west from the east end of the park. It’s a good walk from here to our car.

The smile of my cousin Janice as a baby. And here is my beautiful cousin with her new hairdo after her cancer treatment. She can’t hide that smile. (PJ and I send you our blessings.)
Janice: We put our Christmas lights out (in March) also, to let neighbors know that we are thinking of them.

05.09.2020: 0500: Up and ready to walk. 0655:The Sun lights up the bougainvillea.

can interpret for her if needed. 1730: We had a fresh salad that Julie brought us from Sprouts, and finished watching the final episode of ANNE WITH AN “E.” Bobbie S. said she wanted it to continue. I feel the same way, but they ended with a HEA. (Except for the Native Canadian-American situation). We also watched another episode of SONGLAND. The three judges, along with the guest star, immerse themselves in each contestant’s song tweaking it. Like THE VOICE, there is a personal investment of all the people involved.
0710: Mt. Lemmon in the Catalinas from our view in Udall Park. 1169 steps.

Joe and Ethan have successful fishing at Parker Canyon Lake. Trout!

Through ALOHA, we can get clear plexiglass over-the-lips masks for doctors so their HOH patients can read their lips.

05.10.2020: Yes. Today is Mother’s Day. Which brings me to my Mother: Eloise Fain Turner – Born: 11 July 1906 Shepherd, San Jacinto County, Texas, USA. Died: 19 May 1991 (aged 84) Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA. Burial: Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery.
In this picture, we are at Peck’s Lake near Clarkdale, Arizona. She is commenting on a weed that we picked up. She taught me to be aware of the plants, trees, and geography of the country. Together, we enjoyed listening to the Quiet of Nature.
Even now, when I find myself among pine trees, I am filled with the Spirits of my parents and our son, Robert.

MOTHER’S DAY:
Julie, Joe, and Phyllis having fresh trout dinner this afternoon.

My wife, Phyllis Jane (Slocum) Turner, PJ, SWOMBO (smile…): Mother of our three (surviving) children, and grandmother of eight (known) grandchildren.
Phyllis,
Are you the person who
shares each day with me?
Are you the person
who shares my memories?
who teaches me cooking skills?
who holds my hand walking Udall Park?
Are you that person?
Are you the one
who becomes my date for evening
television treats of
high drama, belly-laugh comedy,
musical features,
news?
Are you the person who
provides the joy of
family gatherings
the extraordinary
moments of peace
in my
life?
Swombo
the person who
asks, “Are you playing
Ring-Around-The-Rosie
to see how close you
can come without scoring
a bull’s eye?”
That would be
me!
05.11.2020: Sam scored 130/300
05.11.2020: PJ received a call from Granddaughter Rachael at NAU. She has a student job in accounting. This morning, PJ read a text from Bekah working in a Children’s hospital in Chicago. She has been transferred from her DNA-genetics study lab and now works in a lab on the COVID 19 Virus.
Ran into a problem attempting to place a cover on my short story book: I clicked a wrong button and have an unwanted picture go on the cover. I’ve tried all kinds of methods and can’t seem to change it. I called the company twice, but nothing works. May have to start over, tomorrow.
05.12.2020: Still having trouble with the cover picture transfer. In desperation, I called Julie. We’ll see what can be done on Wednesday. I practiced shooting in the late afternoon when Swombo could sit in the shade and score for me. I shot twelve ends 36 arrows. Won’t talk about the score. Lots of 20s lots of 0s.

We watched the rest of THE VOICE and some back episodes of SONGLAND. Thanks for telling us about Songland, Virginia.
05.13.2020: 0545: The first thing I did is walk around the house, checking the Buick and Matrix’s tires. I couldn’t see anything amiss. 0630: Al and Dexter Dog came walking up the back alley while I was practicing shooting. He didn’t hear any disturbance. We visited in the back yard, letting Dexter explore his favorite corners for awhile. I finished practicing. Sure glad it’s practice and Swombo was still sleeping.
1000: Body Central for PJ’s PT. 1600: Sorry this is so long. But many pictures, so there! While she was doing her PT, I was at a Zoom Meeting presented by Davis Phenny Foundation on Sleep and Parkinson’s.
It is the wind and the rain, O God,
the cold and the storm that make this earth to blossom
and bear its fruit.
So in our lives it is storm and stress
and hurt and suffering
that make real men and women
bring the world’s work to its highest perfection.
Let us learn then in these growing years
to respect the harder, sterner aspects of life
together with its joy and laughter,
and to weave them all into the great web
which hangs holy to the Spirit, to the Divine, to the Lord.

– W.E.B. Du Bois
